About My Climate Plan
My Climate Plan is a non-profit membership organization on a mission to create a climate safe future for all. We are new and growing. We think of 2024 as our “prototype year,” a year where we learned how to serve a membership that spans the rural-urban divide with our online platform, member benefits, weekly newsletter and first advocacy campaign.
We are looking for a great new person to join our kind, thoughtful and constantly learning team. Position Details

Title: Community Engagement Officer

Reports To: Jamie Biggar, Co-Founder and Co-Creation Lead

Hours & Compensation: Contract, $40/hour for 32 hours per week, 134 hour/month for 11 months ($58,960 total for this 11 month contract, a rate that would be $64,320 for a year)

Duration: February 2025 – December 2025, with the intention of renewal and the possibility of a permanent position pending funding.

Location: Position is remote, based in Nova Scotia and some travel within Atlantic Canada and Canada is required
Responsibilities

Community + Group Building: Recruit and form local groups to support each other through mutual aid and shared community efforts to be more resilient to climate extremes.

Engaging with Decision-Makers: Help climate change-impacted people and others across Canada engage with their Members of Parliament on campaigns like Don’t Let Canada Burn.

Empowering Communities During Elections: Play a leading role with volunteers across Canada to support voters and potential voters who want all parties to do more on climate change with the Impact Voters campaign

Member Support: Assist My Climate Plan members in using our innovative climate planning platform, accessing discounts and benefits, and organizing impactful events.

Testing and Learning: Work with the rest of the My Climate Plan team, advisors, members and community to develop the membership program to make it ever more effective and valued.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone with:

Leadership Background: Experience leading or serving groups in various fields—whether as a bar manager, camp leader, or similar roles—is welcome and valued.

Connection Skills: A passion for building connections across ideological divides and a willingness to learn and grow in the role.

Community and/or Advocacy and/or Political Organizing Experience: Direct experience in advocacy and/or political organizing and community building is a plus.
