In support of the busiest library system in the world, the Toronto Public Library Foundation’s purpose is to change the library story in our city so even more Torontonians take pride and invest in its world class spaces, programming, technology and services.
Since its inception in 1997, the Foundation has raised over $84 million thanks to generous donors. Now more than ever, the Library needs donors to help ensure that the 76% of Torontonians who use the Library have access to resources, programs, services and spaces that make for an economically strong and socially resilient city.
This position will report to the President and work closely with the TPL leadership team, board of directors, and staff to meet ambitious fundraising goals for our mid-sized non-profit organization and activate volunteer support in pursuit of those goals.
Role Summary
As the senior revenue generator you will help elevate and accelerate our revenue growth through securing transformational gifts by bringing your deep network of individual philanthropists, city builders, and corporate Canada to expand our base of already committed and engaged donors and supporters.
You will be responsible for co-creating the strategy to accelerate revenue growth towards a $10M Foundation goal. You will identify, cultivate and secure strategic transformational gifts at the $1M tier across corporate and individual donors and elevate your revenue team by developing relationships that align donor passion with library priorities. Your best practices increase Foundation efficiencies across donor journey, cultivation opportunities, working closely with the marketing team to support revenue. Your courage and boldness make you a strong leader, committed to success through inspiring and mentoring the revenue team and collaborating with the Foundation and Toronto Public Library team.
Role Responsibilities
- Personally securing $1M+ gifts from primarily individuals and, secondarily, corporations
- Participates, with the direction of the President, to create the strategic plan
- Dynamic, engaging and effective leadership of the revenue team
- Leverages data insights to generate opportunities to lead the revenue team in securing major gifts, build a strong prospect pipeline across individual and corporate donors and co-creating cultivation opportunities
- Leads the work of Biblio Bash committee and revenue
- Helps leadership identify and address organizational development issues that challenge and support team health and effectiveness
- Works closely with other senior TPLF leaders establish Foundation’s best practices and to ensure strategic alignment of Foundation’s priorities
- Ensures that philanthropy and fund development are carried out in keeping with the organization’s values, mission, vision and plans
- Stays in touch with the pulse of the NFP industry to ensure best practices are maintained and we are recognized by top tier fundraising organizations, donors and corporations as experts in this field
- Builds strong relationships across the Library team
- Helps establish performance measures, monitors results and helps the President, development committee(s) and board evaluate the effectiveness of the organization’s fund development program
- Ensures compliance with all relevant regulations and laws, maintains accountability standards to donors and ensures compliance with code of ethical principles and standards of professional conduct for fundraising executives
- Invests in the revenue team’s professional development and career growth
- Assures stability by creating a working environment that is rewarding to staff and volunteers

Qualifications
- Strong strategic planning support overall Foundation revenue goals, and individual portfolio targets; evaluation, directing and motivating staff, oral and written communication skills
- Increasingly more sophisticated leadership of a revenue team garnered over several years’ experience
- Experience in data-driven leadership and the use of customer relationship management systems to manage team and drive revenue
- Strong network of philanthropists and city builders who can invest in transformative gifts
- Financial management, values clarification, organizational behavior and development, and governance
- Knowledge and experience of the fundraising industry, philanthropic trends, ethics, motivations for giving and volunteering, research and cultivation practices, standard fundraising techniques including face-to-face solicitation, proposal writing, special events, telephone solicitation, and direct mail, and, development office functions including gift processing, prospect and donor histories, and fundraising reporting
- Knowledge of and appreciation for the marketing team expertise and the need to build brand among grassroots and high net wealth communities
- Over 10 years fundraising experience in a well-respected not for profit organization
- University degree and CFRE is preferred
