Position Summary

BCIT’s Foundation is seeking a regular, full time (1.0 FTE) Executive Director. This position provides executive leadership to the BCIT Foundation and is accountable for developing, leading and successfully implementing strategies that grow Foundation revenues and deepen donor engagement. Works with the Vice President, External and Foundation Board to update, enhance and implement a vision and strategic plan for the Foundation. Ensures the Foundation’s growth, success, and positive culture. Provides leadership to strategic, business, and operational planning of the Foundation, including the development, implementation and management of fundraising campaigns for the benefit of BCIT students. Acts as a strategic advisor and key representative who cultivates, solicits, and stewards donors and is successful in securing major and transformational gifts, partnerships, prospects, private and public sector funds from corporations, individuals, and government.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Participates as a member of the Vice President, External’s leadership team, sharing accountability for broad strategic planning and achievement of the Institute’s success. Acts as a champion of the Institute’s long term vision, mission and values, and a key leader of change, innovation and progress.
  • Acts as a strategic advisor to the Vice President, Foundation Board and Executive Team to develop and implement strategies that grow Foundation revenues and ensure the achievement of BCIT’s priorities for philanthropic and community support. Prepares reports on performance and activities for the Board of Governors and Foundation Board.
  • Provides leadership and vision to the BCIT Foundation with an external focus aimed at enhancing the Institute’s profile and reputation. Collaborates with the Vice President to develop and deliver a comprehensive and integrated campaign plan for annual giving, major and legacy gifts, endowments, capital and programmatic fundraising, special grants and sponsorships.
  • Develops a comprehensive multi-year capital and major gift plan for the Institute, including the development of fundraising materials and proposals in support of the plan. Monitors and evaluates fundraising initiatives to ensure income and donor generation is efficient and effective, including setting and managing success metrics for needle-moving key performance indicators.
  • Works with the Foundation Board to recruit Board members and volunteers and develop and assess the effectiveness of the Board. Leads and directs all activities including establishing policies, standards, systems and processes related to analyzing, planning, execution, control and evaluation for the Foundation.
  • Establishes, develops and manages relationships with a network of fundraising volunteers to ensure their knowledge, skills, contacts and expertise are leveraged effectively.
  • Works collaboratively with senior leaders across BCIT, including the Schools, with respect to special projects and major gift solicitation and management. Ensures that the department acts as a resource to Schools on fundraising activities and preparation of grant applications.
  • Ensures that marketing and brand awareness strategies are operationalized to attract new donors and retain past donors, building a strong base of support. Develops and implements a well-defined and effective marketing and communication plan for fundraising and disseminating information to internal and external partners, contacts, donors, advisory groups, volunteers and organizations.
  • Keeps abreast of political, economic, educational and social leading practices and trends to influence and develop innovative approaches to optimize effective implementation and ongoing success of BCIT’s fundraising strategies.
  • Manages direct and indirect reporting staff, volunteers, oversees and participates in selection, coaching, mentoring, development, performance management and all other people-management practices.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification is preferred.
  • 10 years of directly related experience in major gift fundraising, donor relations/stewardship, with at least 5 years at a senior management level.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Expert strategic leadership skills with ability to provide long-term vision, strategy, and oversight to fundraising programs and partner relationships in a complex, unionized organization.
  • Expert fundraising campaign planning, execution and project management skills, including major gifts, endowments and significant capital planning projects.
  • Advanced ability to identify and successfully obtain support for development activities based on comprehensive knowledge of the business and industry sector at the provincial and national level, and lobbying for funds that support related goals.
  • Advanced interpersonal and relationship skills, including effective persuasion and negotiation skills. Ability to build strong relationships with senior level staff and volunteers, and in leading/mentoring teams.
  • Advanced experience in leading marketing and communications planning, including digital and online marketing, social media, and public relations.
  • Expert knowledge and understanding of best practices in Board governance including legal, operational, and ethical roles and responsibilities of boards, officers, and associated committees; compliance with Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and BC Societies Act.
  • Strong leadership and transition management skills with the ability to make decisions.
  • Advanced critical thinking and problem solving skills, with the ability to compile and analyze performance data to develop metrics that support decision-making for resource allocation and campaigns.
  • Advanced presentation and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of Microsoft Office, database management, and generally accepted accounting principles.

Salary Range: $164,805 -$236,907, with a control point of $206,006 per annum

Additional Salary Information: The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and the maximum base salary for a position. The control point of the range represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications, and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred, or promoted between the minimum and the control point of the salary range for a job, taking internal equity into account. Salaries above the control point may be considered for extenuating circumstances and must be approved by an external governing body.
