Yorktown Family Services provides a comprehensive range of mental health services for children, youth, young adults and families who are experiencing serious emotional/social/behavioural difficulties along with several gender-based violence initiatives. Position Summary:
The Talent & Culture Director is responsible for the overall delivery of human resource functions and services. This position will provide leadership and management to Yorktown staff with transparency, accountability and fairness. The Talent & Culture Director provides strategic human resource leadership and direction, ensuring Yorktown builds an exceptional organization that attracts, develops, excites and retains exceptional people.
The Talent & Culture Director will provide leadership that projects Yorktown’s values, professionalism and competency. Yorktown views diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence as essential pieces of an integrated whole that helps to create and sustain a productive organization – one that values all individuals and allows the organization to interact effectively with the many cultures it serves.
This position lead will provide leadership to Yorktown staff in a manner that embodies the strategic values of the organization.
The Talent & Culture Director works in collaboration and partnership with the CEO to communicate Yorktown’s vision, and engage and inspire staff towards its realization.
This position will apply proven leadership, problem-solving, critical thinking, risk mitigation, communication and management skills to provide oversight, expertise, strategic guidance and support across the organization. The Talent & Culture Director directly supervises the Talent & Culture Manger and the Talent & Culture Coordinator.
Strategic Leadership
- Effectively communicates Yorktown’s vision, mission, values and strategic priorities.
- Motivates and engages staff to integrate and embody the vision, mission, values and strategic directions to provide the highest quality of service delivery.
- Effectively leads the staff group under the leadership of the CEO through the ongoing development of the strategic plan, change management, continuous quality
- improvement and risk management.
- Demonstrates and model’s diversity and inclusion values as outlined in Yorktown’s related policies and procedures
- As a Leadership member of Yorktown plays an active, constructive and significant role in the identification and development of strategic and operational goals and objectives.
- Participates constructively and actively in the development and articulation of Yorktown’s strategic plan, and the yearly operational plans that flow from the strategic plan.
- Directs areas of responsibility in line with the strategic and operational plans, the vision, mission and values statement, contractual and service plan obligations in line with ethical and professional standards, in compliance with the employee’s professional association and/or discipline requirements.
- Promotes and develops internal and external partnerships and fosters collaboration for the benefit of the organization and the children and families we serve.
- The Talent & Culture Director works closely with the CEO and Leadership Team in supporting the Board, ensuring the timely dissemination of materials pertinent to the organization’s needs, risk and liabilities.
- Reinforces the need to identify and develop skills in targeted areas and implement strategies through a succession plan to ensure strategies are in place for knowledge transfer.
- Fosters and supports a culture of learning and excellence.
- Together with the Leadership Team, develops meaningful human resources indicators, analytics and measures to assess and monitor progress in meeting the objectives of the Yorktown’s strategic plan.
- Promotes and fosters a culture that encourages and supports staff creativity, initiative, learning, excellence, team work, staff engagement and accountability.
- Promotes and fosters a culture of high performance and quality improvement.
- Ensures consistency and compliance with policies and procedures.
- Directly responsible for the Multi-Site Joint Health & Safety Committee. Ensuring compliance with AODA and the Occupational Health & Safety Act.
- Manages learning and development in accordance with the mandated, funded, legislated and accredited standards.
- Together with the Leadership Team, leads the development of Yorktown’s plans and procedures that facilitate program and staff in meeting defined expectations.
- Contributes to the financial responsibilities of the budget in accordance with Yorktown’s policies, procedures and internal controls.
- Establishes effective relationships with Unions, partners, funders and other stakeholders to provide effective and efficient service.
- Represents the Employer during Collective Bargaining and bargains in good faith.
- Represents the Employer on the Labor Management Committee to achieve a win-win outcome.
- Hires, trains, develops and formally evaluate subordinate staff through regular performance appraisal process in accordance with the policies Yorktown, Accreditation and best human resources practices.
- Serves as a coach and role model in the direction and supervision of staff.
- Works together with the CEO, /Leadership Team/Management Team to identify and develop skills in targeted areas and implement strategies through a succession plan to pass on corporate knowledge to ensure strategies are in place for knowledge transfer.
- Represents Yorktown Family Services at all times in an ethical and professional manner
- Oversees the organization to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.
- Responsible to implement Wellness initiatives with a proven success record that assists in maintaining a healthy workplace.
- Provides specific advice and counsel to the leadership and management on a wide variety of human resource matters, taking organizational goals, legislative compliance, accreditation, regulations, standards and best human resource practice into consideration
- Develops Human Resource policies for CEO approval, ensuring effective and efficient use of resources.
- Exhibits leadership in setting tone for managing the human resources of the organization.
- Assumes a primary role with respect to the consistent communication of Human Resource aspects and values of the organizational mission, policies and procedures to employees, managers and funders.
- In collaboration with Leadership Team, assumes overall accountability for the organization’s training and organizational development plan and budget and the expenditures related to training and advanced professional education.
- In collaboration with the Leadership Team, assumes overall responsibility for major aspects of the budget including benefits, salary expenditures and initiatives with respect to providing flexibility for employees while containing costs.
- Together with the Leadership Team, leads and supports staff through organizational and cultural change.
- Communicates a compelling vision and strategy, and inspires and motivates others through leadership effectiveness.
- Reviews systems such as, pay practices, performance management, and employee recruitment to ensure they are aligned with the desired culture.
- Other duties as assigned
- Minimum of 7 years senior leadership experience in Human Resources.
- Bachelor of Human Resource Management or equivalent.
- CHRL Designation preferred. CHRE Designation an asset.
- HRPA Registration in good standing
- Progressive Human Resources management experience in a not-for-profit and unionized environment
- Ability to represent the Employer in Collective Bargaining
- Occupational Health and Safety Certification, Health Benefit administration, WSIB management and AODA compliance and reporting.
- Demonstrated leadership, knowledge and expertise in human resources best practices, regulatory and legislative requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to build teams, motivate and support staff.
- Understanding of change management and ability to manage change.
