About this position

Are you interested in social impact and up for a challenge? Would you like to work for an up and coming startup helping professionals find meaningful work while building your portfolio and personal brand?

We are growing our business and looking to add web development expertise to the team. We need your help over the coming months to improve our user experience, fix some bugs, and build some unique templates and add-ons. 

We’d like to find a web developer to begin working with us part-time on contract, with the end goal of having you join the team full-time. We’re not looking for just anyone who can get the job done, we’re looking for a team member to join us and contribute their knowledge, have their ideas listened to and help transform our website.  We want to work with you to meet your goals and aspirations as an up and coming web developer so that together we can help more people find meaningful jobs and help companies showcase their impact. It’s important to us that you believe in our mission.

• You love to code for fun
• You’re that rare breed of developer who can do back and front end work 
• Troubleshooting is your middle name (ok- not really, but you know what we mean)
• You understand the application lifecycle and how to transform a set of requirements and a design document into a full-fledged web application. Knowing how to convert functional design requirements to technical design requirements.
• When you look at a website you think about the UX and code that went into it
• You don’t mind working remotely
• You read tech sites to stay up to date on the latest web best practices and trends
• You want to be involved in tech strategy decisions 
• You are passionate about social impact, the non-profit sector and corporate social responsibility

Here’s some things that will keep you busy 

• You’ll be responsible for developing/maintaining the overall design and architecture of the web platform solution, managing our CMS-driven and mobile responsive website
• Setting up the front end design and copy file for mobile responsive layouts 
• Coding the back end utilizing the existing infrastructure, working through testing and modifications 
• Handle all technical trouble shooting issues.

Examples of some specific tasks may include:

• Building our custom company job profile  
• Developing mandatory log in function to view “how to apply” section of job descriptions
• Create a new Wordpress theme for our blog 

We see a good fit with someone who has these skills and experience:

• A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other related subject desirable 
• 3+ years experience with PHP on yii framework 
• 3+ years of HTML5/CSS experience 
• 3+ years of JavaScript experience
• Knowledge managing a third party dedicated web server 
• Experience working with Photoshop to take design files and cut web images 
• Experience working with SSL certificates and site encryption 
• Experience working with WordPress
• Experience working with e-commerce platforms, specifically payment gateways
• Experience working with mobile applications or websites
• Proven track record working in a team environment, embedded and/or remotely 
• Superior knowledge of browser compatibility issues
• You can optimize a website/web application for mobile devices on various platforms
• Strong competency in responsive, mobile-first layouts
• Experience with building CSS layout/templates conforming to all popular web browsers (IE 8+, Chrome, Firefox, Mobile)
• Information Architecture, wireframing, site mapping, etc
