About this position
Reporting to the Vice-President, Public Affairs, the incumbent will be a member of the Public Affairs department and will be responsible and accountable for delivering the public positioning of the Ontario Trillium Foundation through a variety of communications products and strategies. This role will focus specifically on external communications and the ongoing relationships with external stakeholders, especially media, government and partners.
The successful candidate will lead all interactions with media as required to proactively promote OTF’s image and initiatives as well as manage media and governmental relations. This includes developing and implementing a proactive media strategy to identify, build and maintain productive relationships with all levels of media across the province. This also includes writing and promoting news releases and stories to targeted media through traditional and online methods. The successful candidate will also manage relationships with external stakeholders in the context of special announcements, external partnerships and other cross-promotional initiatives.
The role requires someone with excellent writing, editing, proofreading skills. It also requires superior communications and interpersonal capabilities. Experience with speechwriting and a strong familiarity with social media are expected. A professional and long-standing presence on social media will be viewed as an asset.
The person must have a degree or diploma in Journalism, Public Relations, Corporate Communications, or a related field with at least five years’ experience in a communications role. They may also have an equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in the public or non-profit sector. The candidate must have experience in the development and production of written and creative materials as well as issues management. A long history working directly with the Ontario government or other governmental experience is important.
Bilingual (English and French) is an asset.
