Project Manager (starting January 2015, one-year contract with the possibility of extension)

POSITION SUMMARY:
CivicAction is seeking a full-time Project Manager for one-year contract (with possibility of extension) to manage the execution and expansion of CivicAction’s leadership programs, DiverseCity Fellows and the Emerging Leaders Network.

JOB RELATIONSHIPS:

  •   Reports to CivicAction Project Director; works closely with CEO

  •   Supervises leadership programs team members

  •   Works closely with CivicAction staff team (e.g. Director of Communications, Director of Development Etc.) 

  •   Liaises with senior business, government, labour, community, academic, and political

    leaders and their staff

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Project Manager will be responsible for the following activities and deliverables:

Project Management

  •   Oversee all aspects of the leadership programs (Emerging Leaders Network and CivicAction DiverseCity Fellows program, including supervising and collaborating with team members to ensure smooth implementation of their annual programming cycles

  •   Manage partnerships with organizations and individuals

    Leadership and Partner Engagement

  •   Manage volunteer leadership teams (e.g., ELN Executive)

  •   Work closely with CivicAction team to foster and sustain relationships with partners

    Execution

  •   Create new pipeline of leaders by managing recruitment, selection, and on-boarding process for ELN members and DiverseCity Fellows

  •   Collaborate with volunteers and partners to design and deliver an annual calendar of leadership and city-building programming that lead to action and impact by rising leaders (approx. 30 sessions and an annual ELNstudio)

  •   Manage one-year Fellows program, including all elements of programming, mentoring, network opportunities, project incubation, as well as evaluation

  •   Deliver project incubation platform that sparks the creation of innovative civic start-ups

  •   Support projects to grow

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS / EXPECTATIONS:

    Experience

  •   5+ years of relevant work experience, including project management and program development

  •   Experience supervising staff

  •   Experience managing diverse volunteers and stakeholders

  •   Knowledge/experience in leadership development, entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship, start-

    ups, and project incubation is an asset

    Skills & Knowledge

  •   Excellent project and time management skills, with ability to prioritize activities to ensure deadlines are met

  •   Strong team leadership and team management skills

  •   Strong communication skills (written & verbal)

  •   Exceptional relationship-building skills and ability to work effectively with partners and corporate sponsors

  •   Event planning and facilitation skills will be considered assets

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    •   Shared work space, meeting rooms and some shared equipment within a downtown Toronto office

    •   Fast-paced, high-performing, and highly collegial working environment.

    •   Occasional evening and weekend work required
